swimmers from Alameda Island Aquatics competed at the Junior
Olympics championships last weekend in Orinda.
Catherine Boles made the finals in 3 events: Womens 11-12 50 meter
back (7th), 100 meter back (6th), and 200 meter back (7th). Her
times of 1:15.14 in the 100 and 2:42.43 in the 200 m were also new
Islander team records.
Marlena Nip also made the finals and placed 8th in the 400 m
freestyle with a time of 5:00.42 in the 17-18 age group. In the
mens 17-18, Daniel Truong placed 8th in the 200 meter breastroke
with a time of 2:54.18 and also swam to personal bests in the 100 m
freestyle and 100 m breastroke.
In
10-under boys, Arron Clavin qualified for a Far Western time in the
50 m freestyle, beating his previous best time by nearly 2 seconds.
Jake Cuenca and Yosiah Fetahi swam in their first J.O.'s and swam
to best times as well.
Alexa Lum qualified in 6 events in 11-12 girls and raced an amazing
400 m freestyle. Rebecca Krause (13-14 girls) beat her best time in
the 100 m back and Helene Takamura (15-16 girls) dropped more than
4 seconds from her previous best in the 100 m back.
In
the mens 15-16 age group, Christopher Lam and Galen Lam (no
relation) put in good races while Morgan Truong qualified for Far
Westerns in the 100 m breastroke. In womens 17-18, Zoe Allen and
Jennifer Hwang also put in personal bests.

Islanders are gearing up for next weekends Far Western
Championships out in Concord, California.
