The
high school swim season just ended with the league finals and
the North Coast Section Championships. The Alameda Islanders were
well represented with swimmers from local high schools.
Leading the way was Chris Hausmann, who won two individual titles
at the ACCAL meet and placed in the top 12 in two events at
the NCS Championships. His finish in the 100 back (51.66) set
a new Alameda High School team record. He also swam to a personal
best time in the 200 Free (1:44.06) and broke the school
record in the 100 free (47.17) with his leadoff swim in
the 400 Free relay. His 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle
swims were good enough to qualify Chris for the prestigious
Santa Clara International meet.
Marlena Nip finished off an excellent high school career at
AHS with two individual wins at the league meet and
earning a new personal best in the 500 free (5:23.72) and a season
best in the 200 free (2:00.79) at NCS.
Freshman Morgan Troung had a sensational rookie season at Bishop
O'Dowd, earning two second place finishes at the HAAL league meet
with lifetime best swims in the 200 IM (2:03.24) and the 100
breaststroke (1:00.81). Morgan went on to compete at NCS and
placed 18th in the 100 breast and earned his
first Sectional cut.
Rounding out the rest of the swimmers who either competed in high
school, placed well at their league meets, or made it as
far as NCS were: Danny Troung, Helene Takamura,Galen Lam
, Chris Lam, Jessica Alvarado, Kayla Chai, Jenn Hwang, Zoe Allen,
and Ben Krause.
Some
of these same swimmers also swam in the Walk-on-meet the day after
NCS and swam to several lifetime best swims.
Also that same day, the
14-under Alameda Islanders swam to a third place finish at the
Undercurrent Relay meet held at Laney College.
